Edwin is one of the oldest Japanese denim brands, started by the pioneer amongst Japanese denim aficionados: Mr. Tsunemi. After WWII, Tsunemi-san started to import denim from the USA, repaired them in Japan, and sold them to other denim heads in Tokyo and far beyond. As the denim subculture started to develop very rapidly across the entire island of Japan, Mr. Tsunemi wanted to respond to this by creating ‘a private label’.
Subsequently, he produced his first jeans from scratch, almost fifteen years after first importing jeans from America. The brand started a revolution in the treatment of denim, a nod to its history in importing and repairing vintage jeans. Up until today, Edwin manufactures a collection of denim and clothing that still reflects this specific ground-breaking spirit. It is a good starting point for anybody that is looking for a nice pair of Japanese jeans. Accessible, yet distinct, Edwin stays true to its heritage without losing sight at the modern world.
