Out Now: Song for the Mute x Birkenstock 1774 – Tenue de Nîmes

We are proud to announce the Birkenstock 1774 x Song for the Mute collaboration is available as of today at Tenue de Nimes. We’ve been excited about this collaboration for over two years now, ever since Melvin, founder of Song for the Mute, and I (Mitch) first met at the store. It’s one of those days I can clearly remember.

It was a Monday afternoon when, out of nowhere, the shoe store suddenly filled up with about 30 people, probably more than we can realistically fit in the space. Melvin had just walked in with his whole family while they were travelling through the Netherlands. What immediately caught my eye was that all of them were wearing the latest Song for the Mute x Adidas collaboration. I told them how much I loved this collaboration, and that’s when Melvin casually mentioned that he was actually the founder of the brand.

We ended up chatting for a while about Song for the Mute, Tenue de Nîmes, Amsterdam, and what we both had coming up. Back then, he hinted at an upcoming collaboration that he felt would fit perfectly with our store and he gave me a sneak preview of what would later become the Birkenstock 1774 x Song for the Mute collection. Since that day, we’ve always stayed in touch, and we usually catch up every Paris Fashion Week. Now, exactly two years later, we’re proud to finally release the collaboration at Tenue de Nîmes.

Song for the Mute is an Australian label founded in 2010 by lifelong friends Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty. The brand approaches clothing as something emotional and tactile, shaped by memory, identity, and lived experience. Based in Sydney, they offer a quiet alternative to trend-driven fashion: pieces that are meant to be worn, kept, and revisited over time. That mindset really resonates with how we think about garments at Tenue de Nîmes as well.

In recent years, Song for the Mute has been worn by artists like Fontaines D.C., Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi, while also building a strong track record through ongoing collaborations with Adidas. And now, for the first time, they’ve partnered with Birkenstock.

The collection features three styles, all available in unisex sizing. There’s the Paris ‘Rebel’, an eye-catching Mary Jane-style design in long-haired Italian fur. The London ‘Artist’, which comes in the iconic taupe leather and takes inspiration from the recognizable Boston, but reworked as a closed shoe. And finally, the Amsterdam ‘Collector’, a completely new silhouette for Birkenstock, finished in beautiful black Italian Abrasivato leather.

For the first time in Birkenstock’s 250-year history, the brand allowed Song for the Mute to reinterpret the otherwise unchanged Birkenstock rivet. All three styles feature this custom Birkenstock x Song for the Mute metal detail, which subtly ties the collaboration together.

The Birkenstock 1774 line represents the more elevated and exclusive side of the brand, available only at a small selection of retailers worldwide. These releases are produced in limited quantities, making each pair feel that bit more special. All styles are now available at Tenue de Nîmes, in unisex sizing from EU 37 to 46.
