To celebrate the 50 years of Patagonia as a brand, a commemorative collection has been made- exclusively available at Tenue de Nîmes in the Netherlands. To see where it all started, founder Yvon Chouinard made the film 'Mountain of Storms' in 1968, a movie about five friends taking a road trip from California to Patagonia. Lets take a quick deep dive into the rich history and show you why we've been loving the brand since the start of Tenue de Nîmes.

Patagonia was founded in 1973 by mountain climbing enthusiast Yvon Chouinard. It all started inside his garage where he made climbing equipment. With this, he earned enough money to support himself and pursue his passion for climbing in his free time. In addition to climbing equipment, Yvon also began making clothing suitable for enduring days in nature. All the clothes were designed to be durable, comfortable, and functional, with a strong emphasis on minimizing harm to the planet.
"Most damage we cause to the planet is the result of our own ignorance"
-Yvon Chouinard, Let My People Go Surfing
In 1968, five years before the founding of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard made a movie called 'Mountain of Storms.' The movie is about five friends who embark on a 5000-mile road trip in a white Ford from California to Patagonia. They packed their ski and mountain climbing gear and documented the entire trip on a 16mm Bolex camera. In 2018, 50 years later, the movie saw a highly anticipated wide re-release. The movie not only showcases their incredible adventure but also reveals the mythological origin story behind the Patagonia name.
