Tenue de Nîmes x Universal Works - Future Friendship Project
We feel ecstatic to finally be able to share our collaborative collection with Universal Works. A company that always tries to push the envelope when it comes to contemporary workwear. Universal Works masterfully blends modern-day aesthetics and needs with the true core of the garment. Not only are the aesthetics true to the garment, but also the fabric and fabrication. Universal Works utilizes fabrics from old school mills that have been around for ages or more modern alternatives like recycled wool. As for the fabrication, Universal Works only works with factories that they know, trust and feel proud of to work with. As you might already know, we fully align with this philosophy. So, working with UW felt like second nature.
The collaboration has been designed to complement the denim elements of a daily wardrobe. 6 items are available, which have been engineered using recycled tweeds and a 400gm woven twill with a super-soft handle. Generating styles that enhance denim was a harmonious decision for both brands. Speaking about the inspiration behind the collaboration, UW founder David Keyte, explained;
“Tenue de Nîmes is a store I’ve admired for years, so I wanted to make something really special - just for them. Rudy and I had conversations about our tastes in music and our favorite movies and it was from here that we came up with the idea of a mini collection based on the fusion of British and Dutch fashion. I wanted to achieve something that fitted well with their well-known love and expertise in denim - but wasn’t actually denim. By choosing to use British fabric like tweeds and heavy Lancashire cotton twill instead, we were able to weave in the essence of real honest working clothes (like denim) but make it feel a bit more UW.”
The collaboration is named the ‘Future Friendship Project’ as an ode to our longstanding friendship with Universal Works that has blossomed through our common interest, admiration and love for hard-wearing, fair-made, quality garments. As our own Rudy Ross concluded, “With this collaborative capsule collection, we, Tenue de Nîmes and Universal Works, further strengthen our partnership and set in stone the beliefs we have in making quality garments.”
